St. Marys is a beautiful community in West Central Ohio and is well positioned among the major cities of Toledo, Columbus, and Dayton in Ohio and Fort Wayne in Indiana. It is conveniently located adjacent to US 33 and Interstate 75 is only ten miles to the east. Interstate 75 is one of the nation's busiest north-south highways, linking Canada to Florida. The Dayton International Airport provides commercial air service. St. Marys is an excellent place to live. We offer a lovely rural setting right in the heart of industrial America. Several major metropolitan areas including Chicago, Cleveland, and Cincinnati are within a days drive. Amazingly, about two-thirds of the nation's manufacturing facilities and 80% of US Corporate Headquarters are within a day's commuting distance, making St. Marys a great business location. Our community sits at the intersection of U.S. Highway 33 and Ohio Highway 29 and State Route 66. Our location in Auglaize County has long made St. Marys a focal point for travelers and traders.

Culture

St. Marians are proud of our past and look to the future with excitement and enthusiasm. The city was platted in 1823. Its inhabitants are primarily of German, English and Irish decent. St. Marians have an uncompromising work ethic and a strong sense of moral value and purpose.

St. Marys Memorial High School has a beautiful Performing Arts Center where they frequently put on band and choral concerts as well as theatrical productions. The Collage Community Arts Council sponsors events throughout the year presenting programs such as Irish step dancing, a jazz trio, a silver cornet band, the Dayton Philharmonic String Quartet, and saxophone orchestra. Arts Place, located in downtown St. Marys, offers our community a fine portrayal of both local and regional artist exhibits.

The Mooney Museum is home for numerous artifacts belonging to the Auglaize County Historical Society as well as some which have been uncovered in recent archaeological digs at the site of Ft. Saint Marys.

Running through the center of town is the Miami and Erie Canal. A replica canal boat was constructed as a community project and sits today on the canal in picturesque Memorial Park along with a replica 1850's era covered bridge which spans the St. Marys River. Each fall, hikers enjoy observing the magnificent scenery and vibrant fall colors as they walk the historic canal towpath. The canal certainly helped shape the culture and heritage of the area and it will be a centerpiece of who we are as we stride into the future.

Our Residents have many opportunities to display their civic pride. Not only have community projects given  us such assets as the canal boat and covered bridge, but they have also created a grotto along the St. Marys River and Veterans Memorial Walkway. A restored Lock 12 on the Miami and Erie Canal is a beautiful setting right in the heart of town. Our many special interest clubs, veteran's organizations and service clubs welcome all into their group. These groups represent interests such as gardening, civic service, youth nurturing, sports and music.
