In 2008 the first annual St. Marys Historical Walking Tour was held in September. The response was overwhelming so the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce is bringing it back in 2009. The Walk will begin at 1:00 p.m., with registration beginning at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 13. Each site has a speaker that will inform the walkers the history of the site, along with great photos to allow the walkers to view what used to be...... The tour sites include: Lock 12, Heritage Park, Grist Mill and the Tumbles, Woolen Mill and Lock 13, the Daniel F. Mooney Museum, First National Bank Building (Dillinger Gang history), the Fountain Hotel that is now the Ft. Barbee Riverview Apartments, and the St. Marys Theater. This will allow the walkers to get the nature side of history by walking the canal, then turn around and take in the historical side of St. Marys by doing the walk. Two locks will be showcased on the walking tour, which might appeal to the canal walkers. The tour is open for all ages. Entertainment and refreshments after the walk. |

She also reported that she has been attending many meetings this month and she spoke briefly on a few of those meetings. Kelly said we have 6 new members in July and 16 since last July. She stated that she has also been concentrating on the approaching SummerFest. The committee reports began with discussions about the state of the lake algae levels. The CVB is working hard at controlling the negative press. Candy Kuck spoke of the Farmers Market and how we are seeing it grow bigger every year. Mary Riepenhoff spoke of the new PDA program they have for grades 3-6. Each child gets a PDA to work with and then have assignments to do on the PDA. She reported that this program is a huge step forward for the school system to keep up with the changing times. Pam Prater reported that the letters for the golf outing teams and the sponsorships are ready to go out. Kimberli Rompilla reported that the Historical Walking Tour needs 12 volunteers for the September 13 event. Anyone wanting to help, please let her know. The Pudding Dive is still scheduled to take place with much excitement and interest. Sponsorships are down $3800.00 from last year as of now. Robbie Burke reported that we will be having a Business After Hours on July 30 at America's Best Value Inn & Suites. It will be catered by Perfect Party Catering and will take place next to the pool unless it rains. The hours will be extended ½ hour due to a golf outing that day. Sandy reported that the next Women in Business will be on Aug. 20at Eagles and will focus on Women and Self Esteem. Kill also spoke of a new way to advertise. For $1560.00, we can advertise on the Evening Leader website and each month we can get a report of number of hits to our link.
